DAY CAMP INFORMATION
We are excited to announce a pilot program offering DAY CAMP programming for two sessions in 2018 as additional weeks for residential Campers and/or as an additional service for those not wanting a sleep over experience. Day Campers come to Camp I Am Special for 5 consecutive days (Monday thru Friday) but do not spend the night. There are two weeks to choose from, June 25-29 and/or July 23-27. Day Campers will experience all the traditional aspects of this beloved Camp including swimming, bike riding, a game truck, yoga, meals and the same one-on-one Buddy each day. The week will focus on social skills during the activities (manners, respect, time management, basic money management, cooking and teamwork). Cost is $550.00 for the week which includes all fun activities, a Day Camp t-shirt and meals & snacks.

COUTDOWN TO SUMMER CAMP 2018
Our Campers are ages 5 and up, and have mental, physical, and behavioral disabilities. During each Campers stay here at Camp we will pair them up with a high school aged Buddy, who will be there to help them with anything that they need, and when the Camper does not need anything, the Buddy is there to hangout with them and do whatever they want. We also have Camp Leaders that supervise the overall well being of both the Campers and the Buddies, and are there to assist with anything that the Buddy needs.
Our Buddies are high school aged students, who donate one week of their summer to assist an adult or childe with special needs. During that one week they will receive training on how to best suit the needs of their Camper, help their Camper with various things they may need (i.e. eating assistance, getting dressed, etc.), and to spend the entire day making sure their Camper is happy and doing what they want to do. The Buddies will be watched over by the Camp Leaders during their session, to assist them with anything they need, and to answer questions about their Camper prior to the Camper arriving.
Camp Leaders are college aged students that have been around Camp as Buddies for at least two years. Each Camp Leader attends a mandatory week of training prior to each Camp season, where they learn vital tools to help make the summer a success. Every Camp Leader is certified in First Aid, CPR & AED use, Profession Crisis Management, and is also a certified lifeguard. Many of our Camp Leaders are also currently pursuing degrees that are related to special education. Each Camp Leader is assigned four sessions during the summer to help in supervising the overall well being of the Camper and Buddies that attend that session.
