WHO ARE CAMP I AM SPECIAL BUDDIES!
Our Buddies are caregivers at Camp I Am Special. Our completely volunteer buddy staff is made up of high school and college students who selflessly give of their time to serve as a buddy for the entire camp session. Each buddy is responsible for one and only one camper during the week. Many of our disabilities may require more 1:1 attention and we have the volunteers, and staff to meet the needs of each camper. Our buddies earn 121 service hours for a week of camp and 48 hours of service for a Mini- Camp.
Buddies are expected to be selfless, dedicated, compassionate, energetic, and, of course, FUN.
How do I become a Buddy?
If you're entering high school, attend high school, or are a college student, you are eligible to become a Buddy .
Please note that we accept Buddies based on the needs of the campers. We will accept 32 Buddies per summer session. We recommend you select as many sessions as you are available to increase your chances of getting a spot. If you are not chosen and put on our waiting list, do not fear! We will continue to try to get you in for the sessions you selected on your application should someone need to back out.
You will need to complete an online application and submit additional forms to be considered for a Buddy spot. The forms and application link can be found on the Buddy Participation Forms page of this website.
